Frequently Asked Questions
1. How much do they cost?
Average cost is between $12 and $16 a square foot.
2. What determines the cost per square foot?
Several variables determine the square foot cost of a putting green. The first
is the size of the green. The larger usually the less expensive per square foot.
The second is the accessibility to the area where the putting green is being
placed. If we can dump the gravel near the spot of the green, the less time
we'll spend moving it to the site, therefore the less expensive for you. We
can also let you know how much gravel is needed and where you can get it. You
put the gravel in the space where the green will go and that can usually save
you a $1 or more per square foot.
3. How does the green hold up to heavy use, kids, dogs, etc.?
Great! Don't worry just let the kids have fun. The synthetic surface of the
putting green is very difficult to damage. The fact that we almost fill it to
the top with the silica, very little of the synthetic fibers are exposed to
be damaged.
4. How do they do in the rain?
The greens are built just slightly higher than your ground level to help with
drainage and the product has been tested to drain 5 inches of water in fifteen
minutes. Our greens putt great all year long, regardless of the weather. Very
similiar to a grass green, in a heavy rain they may puddle in the low spots
but they should drain effectively after it subsides.
5. How does the ball roll compared to a real grass green?
The ball rolls as true as a real grass green. The speed is up to you. The more
rolling of the green the faster it will get.
6. What maintenance is required?
Very little, if any. If green is located in a dark or wet area, you may want
to apply weed/moss control (see Maintenance section for more details). If you
would rather have us look at it, we can come in early spring at $50 an hour
and spruce it up. We are usually able to get the green all cleaned up in less
than three or four hours and ready for the new season.
7. Can I have a tier in my putting green?
Yes! However, we are careful to make sure if you miss the putt it doesn't always
roll off or back at you . We give it room to stay on the tier if you miss the
putt. Therefore the green has to be large enough to accommodate this.
8. Can I chip to my green?
Yes! Several of our greens are used for both putting and chip shots. We can
either build a chipping area that is actually attached to the green or hitting
mats that can be permanently placed in the locations that you would like.
9. Can I have a green-side bunker to practice my sand shots?
Yes! We can design and install a white or gray sand bunker next to your green.
Keep in mind that the sand that gets splashed onto the green may need to be
cleaned off periodically to insure putts roll consistently on your green.
10. How long does it take to install a green?
It depends on the size, location, and accessibility of the green site. A
600 sq ft green with good accessibility will take 2-3 days to install.
